About

This blog traces the stories and information about our ancestors in various lineages starting with Mangold, Kenney, Runkel, Voyce.  The goal is to celebrate their lives and learn about their trials through research and sharing.  Another goal is to “meet” distant cousins and jointly piece together our mutual family histories backwards in time to remember and honor our ancestors

Mangold – Michael Mangold 1815-1892 (b 22 Jul 1815, d 17 Feb 1892) was born in Augsburg (Bayern) Germany.  He came to the US in late 1830s/early 1840s and lived first in Cincinnati, Ohio, then Jefferson, Iowa before moving to Douglas County, Nebraska where he his last years before dying.

Kenney – Robert Kenney 1782-1862  (b 8 Mar 1782, d 6 Oct 1862) came to the US from Antrim County, Ireland when he was a young boy in 1790/1.  He came to Charleston, SC and first settled in Laurens County SC with his family then moved to Edgefield County, SC where he lived most of his life.

Runkel – Henry Runkel 1862-1935 (b 16 May 1862, d 26 Oct 1935) came from Germany (Blumendale?) to Brooklyn, NY when we was a teenager. He moved to Manhattan, NY then to West New York, New Jersey, and later died in Bergen County, NJ.

Voyce – Thomas Voyce 1846-1923  (b 04 Nov 1846, d 06 Feb 1923) was born and died in the West Dean area of Gloucestershire, England.  His surname came from his mother (Mary Ann Voice, Voyce) as she was not married.  He was raised by his mother’s husband Benjamin Roberts.  James Voice (b 27 Oct 1769, d 22 Sep 1842) in England is the most distant known ancestor of MaryAnn.

Shaw – James Shaw (~1775-1844) (b about 1775, d 25 Mar 1844) was born (unknown but possibly New Jersey) and died in Morris County, New Jersey.  The earliest record found to date shows him buying land on 22 Jan 1798 in the Township of Pequannock which later became the Meridan section of Rockaway Township, NJ.  He and his wife Margaret (Hopler) are buried in the Demouth Cemetery in Rockaway Valley, NJ
